Costello explores the manipulation of letters and shapes to create abstract forms. His gestures and movements are deliberate, but he invites ink to pool and seep into the page to become organic and unpredictable. A delicate balance of perfection and imperfection. The works featuring words and phrases push the boundaries of legibility. In graffiti, style is used to express individuality and is often illegible to non-graffiti writers. Costello draws upon this concept and incorporates it as a nod to his graffiti roots.
